Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 2213 -- PARENT AND FAMILY INVOLVEMENT IN EDUCATION WEEK

SPONSOR:  Kraus

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special
Committee on Student Achievement by a vote of 6 to 0.

This bill requires the Governor to annually issue a proclamation
designating the second week of September as Parent and Family
Involvement in Education Week.  The week may be observed through
activities that increase awareness of the importance of family
involvement in their children's education in the school and at
home.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and
FY 2011.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that family involvement improves
student achievement.  The bill stresses the importance of parents
in their children's education.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Kraus; and Penney
Rector, School Administrators Coalition.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
