HB 1600 -- Midwifery

Currently, the practice of nurse midwifery is a legal medical
profession and requires licensing by the state, but it is illegal
for unlicensed nurse midwives to practice midwifery.   This bill
specifies that a person who performs only midwifery services is
not engaging in the practice of medicine, osteopathy, nursing,
nurse-midwifery, or any other medical or healing practice and
does not have to be licensed by the State Board of Registration
for the Healing Arts within the Department of Insurance,
Financial Institutions, and Professional Registration.
