Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1800 -- Intermediate Driver's Licenses

This bill establishes additional requirements for individuals
younger than 18 years of age to obtain an intermediate driver's
license.  The individual must:

(1)  Complete a formal driver's education course;

(2)  Increase his or her behind-the-wheel driver instruction from
40 to 200 hours and 10 to 50 hours of night time behind-the-wheel
instruction;

(3)  Place a temporary instruction permit or sticker in the rear
window when operating a vehicle; and

(4)  Not use a wireless communication device unless it is a
hand-free device, with certain exceptions.

A violation of the provisions of the bill will be an infraction
punishable by a $20 fine for the first offense and a $50 fine for
a second offense.
