Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1928 -- County Coroners

Sponsor: Cooper (120)

Beginning January 1, 2009, this bill authorizes a 40% increase in
the salary of county coroners in noncharter counties; increases
from $1,000 to $2,000 the amount of a coroner's salary that will
be withheld annually until the coroner completes 20 hours of
educational training; and makes educational training expense
reimbursement mandatory rather than discretionary. Additional
compensation for services performed for three or more decedents
in the same incident in one month also is made mandatory rather
than discretionary.

The current salary amounts for certain classes of deputies and
assistants will be the minimum allowable salaries rather than the
required salaries.

All county coroners, deputy coroners, and assistants to the
coroner are required to register with the Missouri Coroners' and
Medical Examiners' Association immediately after election or
appointment and must fulfill any obligations of that membership
within six months.
