HB 2052 -- Licensure of Hair Braiders Sponsor: El-Amin This bill creates a new classification of cosmetology to be known as Class HB-hair braiding. Braiders are required to take a course of study of at least 600 credit hours, with a minimum of 100 hours of classroom training before performing any acts of hair braiding on a patron or customer of a cosmetology school. The bill specifies the required curriculum. Prior to August 28, 2009, a person from another state holding an active license to practice hair braiding who is in good standing and not subject to any disciplinary terms is eligible for licensure if he or she successfully passes the written and practical exams currently administered by this state for natural hairstyling. A person holding an instructor's license in another state wishing to teach in Missouri will be able to do so if he or she successfully passes the instructor's portion of the examination administered in this state for natural hairstyling and also has an active license which is not subject to any disciplinary terms. A person licensed only as a Class HB-hair braider is prohibited from engaging in the occupation of cosmetology by cutting hair or applying dyes or chemicals.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
