HB 2230 -- Human Papillomavirus Immunizations Sponsor: Page This bill requires the Department of Health and Senior Services to add an inoculation for the human papillomavirus (HPV) to the list of required immunizations for a female sixth grader to attend school at the option of the child's parent or guardian. Each school district in Missouri must provide the names and addresses of all parents and guardians of female students who are entering sixth grade to the department. The department must mail age appropriate information about how HPV can cause cervical cancer and that an immunization is available. The information must include the risk factors, symptoms, and prevention of HPV; latest scientific information and the effectiveness of the immunization; the importance of a pap smear; and to contact a health care provider with any questions or concerns regarding the immunization. Parents will have 20 school days after the first day of school to submit written notice to the school that their sixth grade daughter has received the HPV immunization or that she will not be immunized. Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, every school district must submit a report to the department with the number of female sixth graders who have and have not received the HPV immunization as well as the number who have not responded. All health insurers are required to provide health insurance coverage that is not subject to co-pays or deductibles for the inoculations to fully immunize females 12 years of age to 21 years of age against HPV. Certain insurance policies are exempt from the provisions of the bill.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
