HB 2484 -- Sale of Toys with Toxins Sponsor: Low (39) Beginning January 1, 2009, this bill prohibits any person or entity from manufacturing, selling, or distributing any toy or child care item for use by a child younger than three years of age that can be placed in the child's mouth and contains more than .1% diisononyl phthalate (DINP), diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP), or di-n-octyl phthalate (DnOP). Manufacturers must use the least toxic alternative that is not a A, B, or C carcinogen, as rated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and cannot replace phthalates with a reproductive toxicant.
