Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 2553 -- St. Louis Public Schools

Sponsor: Stream

This bill changes the laws regarding St. Louis public schools.
Hiring will be at the recommendation of the principal of the
building to which the employee is assigned, with the approval of
the superintendent, while the superintendent will be responsible
for hiring administrative staff. The bill also changes other
powers of the superintendent and repeals obsolete provisions.

The special administrative board of the transitional district is
required to place every child from kindergarten through third
grade in a reading and a math program until the student reaches
proficiency; create a performance-based evaluation and assessment
program for teachers and support staff; and earmark funds for the
preceding programs, principal training, and alternative schools.
