Summary of the Introduced Bill

HJR 48 -- Voter Identification

Sponsor: Cox

Upon voter approval, this proposed constitutional amendment
requires any person seeking to vote in a public election to
provide election officials a form of identification, including a
government-issued photo identification, in order to show that he
or she is a citizen of Missouri who is lawfully present in the
United States.

The State of Missouri will provide at no cost at least one type
of identification that is specified by statute as sufficient in
order to vote. If any political subdivision incurs a cost for
implementing any voter identification statute, the state will
reimburse the political subdivision for the cost.
