AN ACT

To amend chapter 42, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to the retirement of veterans who are state employees.




Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:


            Section A. Chapter 42, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 42.031, to read as follows:

            42.031. 1. Any veteran who is a state employee, who has served as a state employee for ten or more years and who is eligible as provided for in subsection 2 of this section shall be given, free of charge, credit for two years of creditable service in the Missouri state employees retirement system.

            2. A veteran is eligible to receive the two years of creditable service in the Missouri state employees retirement system if such veteran meets the following criteria:

            (1) The veteran has served two years or more on active duty in the United States Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Army or Air National Guard, Coast Guard, or any reserve component thereof; or

            (2) The veteran while serving as a member of the Army or Air National Guard or any reserve component of the United States armed forces has been activated to serve in any war or conflict for a period of one year or more.

            3. In order to receive the creditable service provided for in this section the veteran shall provide to the Missouri state employees retirement system proof of the service which makes him or her eligible to receive such creditable service.
