AN ACT

To repeal sections 50.330 and 137.715, RSMo, and to enact in lieu thereof two new sections relating to county office salaries.




Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:


            Section A. Sections 50.330 and 137.715, RSMo, are repealed and two new sections enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as sections 50.330 and 137.715, to read as follows:

            50.330. Any salary provided for a county officer, deputies and assistants, shall be paid by warrants drawn on the county treasury and unless otherwise provided by law, shall be approved by the governing body of the county. No salary or benefits of any county officer, deputy, assistant, or employee shall be paid unless the county commission has authorized such salary or benefits with a specific line item in the annual budget document and appropriation prepared and adopted under this chapter. The county commission shall also set the number of hours each such county officer, deputy, assistant, or employee shall work to receive such salary or benefits.

            137.715. Each county assessor shall, subject to the approval of the governing body of the county, appoint the additional clerks and deputies that [he or she] the assessor deems necessary for the prompt and proper discharge of the duties of [his] the office. A portion of the salaries of the clerks and deputies hired by each county assessor shall be paid by the state in accordance with [sections 137.710 and] section 137.750, and the remainder of the salaries for such clerks and deputies shall be paid by the county in which they are employed. No salary or benefits of any clerk or deputy hired by the county assessor shall be paid unless the county commission has authorized such salary or benefits with a specific line item in the annual budget document and appropriation prepared and adopted under chapter 50, RSMo. The county commission shall also set the number of hours each such clerk or deputy shall work to receive such salary or benefits.
