SECOND REGULAR SESSION
House Concurrent Resolution No. 24
94TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Whereas, the United States military is demanding that wounded service personnel repay signing bonuses and forego unpaid signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments; and
Whereas, as a result, men and women who have lost arms, legs, eyesight, hearing and can no longer serve are being exposed to financial hardship; and
Whereas, these men and women have already given enough for their country. Many will never be able to pursue their dreams because of the nature of wounds received in the line of duty; and
Whereas, the wounded service personnel of the United States military deserve a guarantee that their signing bonuses will not be ordered to be repaid or withheld as a result of their sacrifice:
Now, therefore, be it resolved that the members of the House of Representatives of the Ninety-fourth General Assembly, Second Regular Session, the Senate concurring therein, hereby urge the United States Congress to enact legislation ending the current United States Defense Department practice of requiring wounded service personnel to pay back signing bonuses as a result of medical discharges for combat injuries; and
Be it further resolved that the Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of Representatives be instructed to prepare properly inscribed copies of this resolution for the President of the United States, the United States Secretary of Defense and each member of the Missouri Congressional delegation.
