AN ACT

To amend chapter 170, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to physical education requirements in schools.




Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:


            Section A. Chapter 170, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 170.045, to read as follows:

            170.045. Beginning with school year 2009-2010, each school district shall ensure that:

            (1) Physical education classes shall be required for students from kindergarten to fifth grade and shall include at least one hundred fifty minutes of movement each week, consistent with the recommendations of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education as approved by the National Heart Association; and

            (2) Physical education classes shall be required for students from sixth to eighth grade and shall include at least two hundred twenty-five minutes of movement each week, consistent with the recommendations of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education as approved by the National Heart Association.
