AN ACT

To repeal section 321.500, RSMo, and to enact in lieu thereof one new section relating to petitions in fire protection districts.




Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:


            Section A. Section 321.500, RSMo, is repealed and one new section enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as section 321.500, to read as follows:

            321.500. 1. If an initiative or referendum petition is presented to the secretary of the board of directors, which petition carries the names of voters of the district, equal in number to twenty-five percent of [votes] the voters of the district who voted in the last regular district election, the board of directors shall submit the question pursuant to the order or demand of the petition.

            2. The measure called for in the petition is adopted if it receives an affirmative majority vote of the voters voting at the district election.
