COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Insurance
by a vote of 15 to 0.

The bill requires insurance companies and similar entities
(insurers) to include in their annual statement filed with the
Department of Insurance a description of the insurer's
investments, activities, or contributions in or to state and
local governments, housing assistance programs, empowerment
zones, and charities.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that it is a good idea to have
insurance companies disclose their philanthropic activities.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Gunn.

OPPONENTS:  Those who oppose the bill say that it would be
difficult to define these activities and make a report in the
current annual statement.

Testifying against the bill were State Farm Insurance; Missouri
Insurance Coalition; and General American Life Insurance.
