Speaker Pro Tem Denny Hoskins, a Republican, represents part of Johnson County (District 54) including the towns of Centerview, Holden, Knob Noster and Warrensburg in the Missouri House of Representatives. Hoskins is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Personal Financial Specialist (PFS). He and his family live in Warrensburg where he is a Manager with Wilson, Toellner & Associates, and L.L.C. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2008 and elected to the office of Speaker Pro Tem in 2013. Rep. Hoskins has received several awards for his work on Veterans, Job Creation and Higher Education issues.
Denny was born in Jefferson City and raised in a small rural town. His father was a Missouri high school math teacher and later a school administrator while his mother was an elementary school librarian. Upon graduating from Fatima High School in Westphalia, Missouri, Rep. Hoskins decided to attend Central Missouri State University on Missouri Boys' State and Regent's scholarships. He diligently worked his way through college, holding various jobs such as farmhand, sales associate and part-time accountant. He graduated Cum Laude with a BSBA in Accounting.
While working for Deloitte & Touche, in Kansas City, Denny also served in the Missouri Army National Guard in former President Harry Truman's old artillery battery in Independence, MO where he received an honorable discharge in 2000. The Missouri Guard taught Denny the importance of teamwork and gave him a better understanding of the sacrifices our veterans have made for this country. Denny specializes in auditing not-for-profit, governmental and farming entities.
Rep. Hoskins holds memberships in the American Institute of CPA's, Missouri Society of CPA's, Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce, Holden Chamber of Commerce, Clinton Chamber of Commerce, Missouri Brotherhood of Elks and Warrensburg Noon Rotary. He is also a graduate of the Johnson County and City of Warrensburg C.L.I.M.B. and Missouri Chamber of Commerce Leadership programs. His favorite hobbies include coaching youth sports, fishing, hunting, traveling, running, golfing, basketball, softball and spending time with his two children.
Rep. Hoskins was born on October 10th. He lives in Warrensburg and is the father of two children, Cole and Amelia.
Extends the expiration of the provisions regarding the sales tax exemption on the sale of aviation jet fuel and authorizes the City of Columbia to impose a transient guest tax
Adds professional therapy dog to the definition of "service dog" as it relates to crimes against these animals or crimes of impersonating a disabled person
Establishes the Show-me Green Initiative which allows a person or entity to submit a bid to the Department of Transportation to mow grass or vegetation along state roadways
Changes the laws regarding the income tax deduction for job creation by small businesses
Designates "Old Drum" as the official state historical dog
Changes the laws regarding aircraft fuel, liens on aircraft, and anemometer towers
Proposes a constitutional amendment requiring the State Lottery Commission to develop and sell a Veterans Lottery Ticket to support the Veterans' Commission Capital Improvements Trust Fund
