Rep. Steve Helms, a Republican, represents part of Greene County, including part of Springfield (District 135) in the Missouri House of Representatives. He was elected to his first two-year term in November 2016.
In addition to his legislative duties, Rep. Helms is an Insurance Broker. He previously served in the Army and as the Greene County Circuit Clerk.
Rep. Helms is a member of the Second Baptist Church of Springfield.
Rep. Helms graduated from Sarasota High School in 1984. He continued his education by attending Ozark Technical College and Austin Peay State University.
Rep. Helms was born in Fayetteville, NC. He currently resides in Springfield with his wife, Virginia.
Creates new provisions of law related to professional registration
Establishes a pilot program to allow MO HealthNet participants to receive services through direct primary care arrangements
Specifies that birthing centers shall not be required to employ a physician with hospital admitting privileges
Establishes the "Right to Shop Act"
Requires health care providers to provide a cost estimate for health care services or procedures prior to the provision of such services or procedures
Allows licensed professional counselors to be reimbursed for mental health services provided to eligible adults under MO HealthNet
Allows certain physician assistants, assistant physicians, and advanced practice registered nurses who are licensed under chapter 334 to provide psychiatric treatment to certain mental health patients
Modifies provisions relating to the Health Care Cost Reduction and Transparency Act
Authorizes a tax credit for donations to a diaper bank
Changes the law regarding unsecured loans of five hundred dollars or less
