Biography
Yolanda R. Young, a Democrat, represents Jackson County (District 22) in the Missouri House of Representatives. She was elected in a special election to her first term beginning in January 2020.
In addition to her legislative duties, Young is the managing director of Community Outreach and Engagement for Kansas City. She previously worked as a Prevention Program Specialist and a Youth and Family Outreach Specialist. She helped develop an urban farm, the Young Family Farm, in her district, and she has sponsored numerous programs through the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council.
A believer in building community, Young is a member of the Christian Fellowship Baptist Church. She has been recognized with the KC 150 Neighborhood Hero Award, the Kauffman Foundation Good Citizenship Award and the Bank of America Neighborhood Excellence Award.
Born in Texarkana, Arkansas, and spending her formative years in Nash, Texas, Rep. Young has lived in Jackson County since the 1980s with her husband, Alan. They have four children.
