Biography
State Representative Bruce Franks, Jr., a Democrat, represents part of St. Louis City (District 78) in the Missouri House of Representatives. He was elected to his first two-year term in November 2016 and re-elected in 2018.

Franks is a community activist, father and battle rapper, whose priorities are fighting crime, getting guns off the streets and encouraging minorities to become police officers. A St. Louis native born in 1984, Bruce graduated from Lindbergh High School in 2002. He soon became a world renowned battle rapper known as Ooop’s as well as becoming a small business owner.

After the events of August 9, 2014, Bruce was compelled to get involved as a protester/ peacekeeper in Ferguson. This led him to start mentoring youth by giving guidance and support to those in need. Working with Youthbuild and St. Louis’s Workforce development, Franks has helped many at-risk youth graduate and attain gainful employment.

In January of 2015, he was appointed as Police Community Liaison by then-St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Chief Sam Dotson. This position allowed Franks to facilitate the necessary and crucial conversations between community members and the police department paving the way for police accountability reform.
